Before reading on I just wanted to introduce myself…
Before you read on, I think it’s important that I introduced myself. My name is Adam Sicinski. I’m a qualified life coach residing in Australia. I guess in some people’s eyes I’m also somewhat of a “professional” mind mapper; but the jury’s still out as to whether or not mind mapping is an actual profession.

It seems that no matter what topic we discuss that the obstacles or problems they face have less to do with their strategic approach, other people or circumstances, and more to do with their emotional intelligence.
Most people think that given the right strategy or advice will propel them forward towards the attainment of their goals. However, this is rarely the case. What these people fail to understand is that almost every decision they make is tinged with emotion. Therefore almost every decision is an emotional decision — whether we are aware of it or not.
All this goes to show that if we are not in an optimal state of mind that we will probably make poor decisions. As such it's absolutely paramount that we first take control of our inner emotional world before we commit to anything else in life.
My emotional roller-coaster ride...
During the early days of my life coaching business it was very difficult to get clients, set up joint ventures and earn a decent living. I was rejected time and again, which led to feelings of anger, frustration, disappointment and other emotions that were very difficult to deal with. I was constantly overwhelmed with everything I was doing and stressed about everything that I had yet to get done. Life was an emotional roller-coaster, and the ride never seemed to end.
At one point it seemed as though things just couldn’t get any worse. I decided to go into business with a friend of mine and got myself into a lot of financial trouble. This led to even more pain, disappointment, frustration and mild levels of depression. I physically found it difficult to get out of bed in the morning — dreading the fact that debt collectors would come after me. And on top of this I had all these customer service issues that were overwhelming me emotionally. I didn’t know what to do and I felt as though my life was out of control.
A bucket load of unnecessary stress...
Given all the stress and emotional mayhem I turned to self-help books for some sanity. That is when I came across a book by Anthony Robbins, which helped me understand that my emotions are only interpretations of reality, and not actual reality.
What I discovered was that every emotion I experience had a positive message that I could use to help me with the challenges I was facing. Therefore instead of resisting my emotions I could use them to further my progress in life.
This shift in thinking allowed me to take back control over my emotional life; which likewise enabled me to pay off my debts and start my journey once again on a fresh new path. For the very first time in my life I felt as though I was in charge of my life and this naturally enhanced my decisions, choices and actions moving forward.
Life Coaching turned to emotional coaching
Over the next couple of years my life coaching work turned into emotional coaching work. Just about every client I spoke to was experiencing some kind of emotional setback. However, now I was in a much better position to help my clients work through their emotional roadblocks — as I had worked through mine.
Having gained all this first-hand experience on how to handle emotions, and having coached many clients through a variety of emotional challenges, I decided to outline everything I had learned about managing emotions into a series of mind maps for easy reference.
